Austin Business Journal shares, "Icon Technology Inc., a 3D-printing construction technology company, has delivered its first home in a luxury neighborhood on the shores of Lake Travis.
Icon began construction of five 3D-printed homes in The Canyon Club, a 60-acre project being developed by Prasso Ventures north of Spicewood at 122 Shoreline Road, in April. The first 3,400-square-foot home was substantially completed in October, an Icon representative confirmed, though there was some final work on the home that occurred through December.
This project underscores how quickly Icon homes can be 3D-printed, and the company continues to build more. Their homes have been cropping up across the metro in recent years — notably within East Austin’s Mueller neighborhood, Georgetown’s Wolf Ranch and the Community First! Village, which serves people coming out of chronic homelessness.
The four-bedroom Icon homes at The Canyon Club will be available for fractional purchase starting in the low-$400,000 range per share. Shared ownership of the homes includes one-eighth of the property, six weeks of annual usage and year-round membership benefits, along with the ability to trade weeks or generate income through a vacation rental program in partnership with Inspirato, Above and ThirdHome.
Icon's homes, which are made with a cementitious material called CarbonX, come with a variety of benefits, according to the company. They're rated to withstand 250-mph winds and also can withstand fires for nearly three hours. The printed walls help reduce temperature fluctuations during summer and winter, and the homes can be built much quicker than traditional builds.
In addition to Icon’s homes, The Canyon Club will have 20 traditionally-built homes on its 60 acres, which will start at $2.6 million. Those homes will have four- and five-bedroom floor plans.
Other project partners at The Canyon Club include Daybreak Hospitality Group, interior design firm Kempt Studio and Mark Richardson Architects, according to the development’s website."
