Austin Business Journal shares, "Leander is one of the fastest-growing cities in the metro, and that growth is poised to continue.
Leander City Council annexed more than 300 acres for a new subdivision, called Oakwood Hills, in May that will add about 200 homes to the suburb northwest of Austin.
The project is being developed by 23244 Nameless Rd. LLC.
Oakwood Hills is located on 337 acres at 23244 Nameless Road on the western edge of Leander, according to council documents. The land is currently undeveloped, and developers are proposing to build single-family homes on 174 one- to two-acre lots.
Leander is one of the fastest-growing cities in the entire metro, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Its population boomed from 59,202 in 2020 to an estimated 87,511 in 2024, a 47.8% increase. Moreover, the city had a population of just 26,521 in 2010, meaning it grew an estimated 230% in 14 years.
Other neighborhoods cropping up in Leander include Tricon Bryson, a build-to-rent neighborhood from Tricon Residential, and the 210-acre Leander Estates in Northwest Leander. The city is also home to two of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in the metro, according to Austin Business Journal research. Bar W Ranch had 215 home starts and 271 home closings in 2024, and Travisso had 196 starts and 308 closings in that same time frame.
But Leander isn’t the only fast-growing Austin suburb. From July 2023 to July 2024, Hutto’s population grew 9.4% to 42,661, the most of any suburb in the metro. Other Austin-area cities with at least 10,000 people that saw big year-over-year-increases included Dripping Springs (16.9%), Liberty Hill (15%), Lockhart (11%), Leander (8.7%) and Bastrop (8%)."
