AUSTIN (KXAN) — "New reporting from Forbes published last week outlines a host of college campuses employers are turning to instead of Ivy League institutions — including two in Texas.

The University of Texas at Austin and Rice University joined the rankings of new public and private school elites which are “attracting the smartest students and plaudits from employers.”

Forbes’ researchers said the evaluation came as the traditional Ivy League institutions have “faced a barrage of complaints in recent years” related to admissions policies, grade inflations at several elite schools and university officials’ responses to on-campus protests regarding the Israel-Hamas War.

"The California-to-Texas migration pattern still holds, according to report"

Austin Business Journal reports, "The Lone Star State continues to be a magnet for people moving out of California.

According to Texas Realtors, a professional organization for the state's real estate industry, the number of relocations from California to Texas surpassed any other state-to-state relocations in the country. The group's 2024 Relocation Report is based on U.S. Census data from 2022.

An estimated 102,000 Californians moved to Texas that year, the report shows. In addition, more than 41,000 Floridians moved to Texas, as did 30,000 New Yorkers. Illinois, Louisiana, Colorado, and Oklahoma each saw roughly 25,000 of their residents move to Texas in 2022.

"Austin nests on Zillow list of best cities for first-time homebuyers"

Culturemap Austin shares, "It's not easy to buy a home anywhere, but folks in Austin are doing way better than average, according to Zillow. Texas' capital ranked No. 5 among the top 10 U.S. cities for buying a first home.

In 2023, new homebuyers occupied the largest slice of the market since the report started in 2018, making up about half of all buyers. The demographic was only 37 percent in 2021. It cites the "rate lock" effect for keeping "repeat buyers" from moving on too quickly and abandoning their lower mortgage rates. "Austin is raking in millionaires — here's the latest tally"

Austin Business Journal shares, "Austin’s millionaire population has grown by 110% over the past decade.

London-based investment consultancy Henley & Partners has determined that roughly 32,700 millionaires now call Austin home, rising from about 15,500 in 2013.

The Texas capital has seen the largest leap in wealth than any other city in the nation, according to the company's 2024 USA Wealth Report that relied on data from New World Wealth, a global wealth intelligence firm based in South Africa.

"Builders expect home prices, construction to increase in 2024"

Austin Business Journal shares, "Homebuilders around Texas are optimistic that new home prices will ramp up in 2024 and that construction rates will grow as well.

Zonda analyst Bryan Glasshagel presented the company's findings for the final quarter of 2023 at the housing data firm's quarterly event on March 20.

The company surveyed homebuilder division presidents around Texas, 64% of whom expect home prices to increase between 1% to 5% this year. A majority of the respondents are also anticipating increased activity in 2024, with 75% of builders surveyed expecting starts to increase an average 10% this year.
