More About Hyde Park Real Estate

Hyde Park is a charming neighborhood and historic district in Austin, Texas. Located in Central Austin just three miles north of downtown Austin, Hyde Park is defined by 38th Street to the south, 45th Street to the north, Duval Street to the east, and Guadalupe Street to the west. It is situated just north of the University of Texas and borders the neighborhoods of Hancock and North Loop.

As Austin’s first suburb, Hyde Park was laid out in 1891 by a man who owned a private electric trolley line and favored wide streets and shaded sidewalks. This relatively flat area, has a history of attracting free-spirited thinkers and has held on to its bohemian and laid-back vibe. Hyde Park is a quaint neighborhood with friendly and artsy residents, and features a variety of local shops, restaurants and parks.

Hyde Park is an easygoing, self-contained oasis that’s resistant to the hectic energy of the city around it. Clusters of local, non-chain restaurants, like Hyde Park Bar and Grill and Julio’s Tex-Mex, and indie retailers, like Antonelli’s Cheese Shop and Exploded Records, add to the unique aura.

Hyde Park was once home to a popular horse racetrack and the state fair (before it moved to Dallas). Hyde Park was seen as a recreational eden in its early days. The plentiful red oaks and pecan trees planted generations ago still shade peaceful streets anchored by the vivid bungalows and decorative Victorians inhabited by renters and longtime owners alike. Hyde Park homes tend to be more modest in size. The cozy bungalows and detailed majestic homes come in a rainbow of hues and often feature fanciful flourishes.

With its proximity to the University of Texas campus, Hyde Park has long attracted intellectuals, artists, and activists, in addition to students. Waller Creek, which runs through a corner of the neighborhood, bisects the nearby Hancock Golf Course, a nine-hole course original to the neighborhood, and Shipe Park and Pool with tennis courts, where locals enjoy the pools, picnic tables, and playscape.

Centrally located in the city of Austin, Hyde Park offers an easy commute to downtown, where Hyde Park residents can enjoy all that Austin has to offer—exquisite dining, plenty of retail and shopping outlets, vibrant entertainment and nightlife, outdoor activities, local events or festivals, and other local attractions.
