More About Lake Austin Real Estate

Created in 1939, Lake Austin is one of the seven Texas Highland Lakes along the Colorado River in Texas and is fed by the outflow of Lake Travis. It winds its way 22 miles from Mansfield Dam at the base of Lake Travis, through Westlake to the Tom Miller Dam near Downtown Austin. Lake Austin is maintained as a constant-level lake by releases of water from the Lake Travis upstream, providing it with cooler water and home to plenty of largemouth bass, sunfish, and catfish, prime for fishing.

Lake Austin is located just 8 minutes or 2.6 miles west of downtown Austin starting with the Tom Miller Dam, which is located across the street from the Lions Municipal Golf Course and next to the dog park at Red Bud Isle Park. The famous Hula Hut and Mozarts Coffee sit on the Lake Austin shoreline overlooking Tom Miller Dam, with local boat docks for easy access to the restaurants.

Take a trip further down Lake Austin, and you will continue to find a variety of restaurants, shops and other outdoor activities such as golfing, hiking, camping, bird watching, and picnicking. Residents of communities located around Lake Austin can enjoy nearby attractions and amenities including the Austin Country Club, Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve, Emma Long Metropolitan Park, and Mt.
