More About Marble Falls Real Estate
Marble Falls is a city in Burnet County, Texas, and is located in the middle of the Texas Hill Country on the Colorado River, 58 miles northwest of downtown Austin, 85 miles north of San Antonio.
Known for its beautiful scenery, Marble Falls is located in the middle of the Texas Highland Lakes area, which sits on the banks of Lake Marble Falls, part of the Highland Lakes on the Colorado River, the largest chain of lakes in Texas. Lake Marble Falls sits between Lake LBJ to the north and Lake Travis to the south.
The falls were formed by a shelf of limestone running diagonally across the river from northeast to southwest. The upper layer of limestone, brownish on the exterior, but deep blue inside, was so hard and cherry it was mistaken for marble. The falls were actually three distinct formations at the head of a canyon 1.25 miles long, with a drop of some 50 feet through the limestone strata.
The falls for which the City is named are now underwater, but are revealed every few years when the lake is lowered by the Lower Colorado River Authority for repairs.
Marble Falls is the perfect place for people who love boating, fishing, golfing, hunting, camping, swimming, bird-watching, and geology. It's also the shopping mecca of the Highland Lakes with more shops and stores than any of the surrounding towns.
Plus, award-winning Hill Country wineries, large recreational parks, and picturesque lakes make Marble Falls a delightful destination for residents and homeowners who enjoy playing and relaxing in nature.
Local attractions in Marble Falls include Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, Cypress Valley Canopy Tours, Flat Creek Estate, Hidden Falls Adventure Park, Johnson Park, Lakeside Park, Longhorn Cavern State Park, and McReynolds Wines.
Originally touted as a retirement area for those who wanted to settle in and watch the sun set over the lake, Marble Falls has rapidly grown to include Horseshoe Bay, a resort-style hotel and country club and several neighborhoods such as Cottonwood Shores, Meadowlakes, Granite Shoals, Highland Haven, and Sunrise Beach Village.
Home prices in Marble Falls vary based on waterfront properties, water access or water views. No longer just for empty-nesters, Marble Falls homes are custom-designed for entertaining, and many have 5 to 7 bedroom, 9 baths, with large chef-style kitchens, media rooms, outdoor living areas, and swimming pools. Americana, European and Mediterranean-style designs have become increasingly popular as are courtyards, guest cottages, and boat houses.
Although newer home builds are such grand estates, not all Marble Falls homes for sale are this lavish. You can still find smaller homes that were developed starting in the 1960s, but have been recently restored or renovated. Marble Falls buyers can still find the 1-story, ranch-style houses averaging about 2,000 square feet in size with 2 to 3-bedroom floor plans. These brick, stone and siding homes tend to sit back from the water in neighborhoods that may provide lake access or at least within a few miles of a public boat ramp for those that want to enjoy lake activities.
