Austin Business Journal reports, "Santa Rita Ranch is yet again Austin’s top selling master-planned community, which its developer attributes to a diverse range of housing options.
The Liberty Hill community was No. 24 in the nation and sixth in Texas with 483 homes sold last year, according to a John Burns Real Estate & Consulting report. It marks the sixth year in a row that Santa Rita Ranch took the top spot in the metro.
Sonterra in Jarrell, which is also north of Austin, also made the list, coming in at No. 41 with 400 home sales.
Thanks to a diverse range of housing options, Santa Rita Ranch developer Ed Horne said the area continues to attract homebuyers of all generations. Homes there price anywhere from more than $300,000 to almost $1.5 million.
“There’s no other community in Austin that has that kind of depth and breadth of market options,” he said. “We can meet people in all the various seasons of their lives.”
Santa Rita Ranch is 50% developed with about 5,000 homes on the 3,100-acre site. In the last three years, Horne said buyers went from about 50% outside of Austin to largely coming from neighboring Austin communities.
Some of the homebuilders in Santa Rita Ranch include CastleRock Communities, Highland Homes, Perry Homes and Westin Homes.
The area grew to include Eldorado Village last year with 1,000 new homes, but there’s more for the taking. Builders should expect about 500 new homesites released in 2026, Horne said.
The area welcomed a new Costco and Target last year, but he said he expects “significant retail growth” in the next two years.
As more people move to Santa Rita Ranch, he said restaurants, family entertainment venues and medical office buildings also pose promising development opportunities.
“It’s exciting to see what’s going to come in the future,” he said.
Santa Rita Ranch and Sonterra rank No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, on ABJ’s latest ranking of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Central Texas."
