Buying a waterfront home on Lake Travis involves evaluating more than the residence, views, shoreline, and dock.

For some properties, another important component is located largely out of sight:

the septic system.

Buyers coming from neighborhoods served by centralized sewer systems may have little experience with an on-site sewage facility, commonly referred to as a septic system.

That does not make a septic property undesirable.

It simply means the system deserves its own due diligence.

Around Lake Travis, this is particularly important because the Lower Colorado River Authority regulates on-site sewage facilities within a 2,000-foot zone around Lake Travis.
