Austin Business Journal shares, "A development of over 200 “micro homes” is coming to San Marcos soon.
Earlier this month, Casata broke ground on what will be a community of 210 tiny homes ranging from 500 to 800 square feet. Casata CEO Aaron Levy said this will be the largest community of micro homes in the region and potentially in the U.S.
The community, which is about three miles north of San Marcos, will have several dog parks, six acres of trails and park space, a pool, a gym and much more. Levy said people will likely move into the new neighborhood in summer 2025.

In 2021, the Austin Business Journal reported on plans by Casata, an Austin-based startup, to harness two burgeoning housing trends: micro homes and build-to-rent communities.
At the time, the company was wrapping construction on Casata Austin, its first community, located in South Austin on Old Manchaca Road. The six-acre community was planned with communal amenities, including a pool, an area for food trucks and electric vehicle charging stations.
Casata, founded in 2020, built its community of micro homes on the idea that people who are looking for homes — especially millennial or Gen Z buyers, or those around retirement age — crave a more minimalist living space. The company then paired such downsized living spaces with robust communal amenities, company executives said in 2021.
“If you think about 100 years ago, American homes were about the size of the homes we are constructing now,” said a Casata executive at the time. “We think people are just ready for it.”"
