Austin Business Journal reports, "A new 100-acre residential neighborhood could be coming to Taylor, where economic growth has been explosive thanks to Samsung’s 2,000-acre, multibillion-dollar semiconductor plant that's under construction in the city.
The development, called Turner Springs, would be home to single-family and multifamily residences as well as commercial and retail properties, according to Taylor Planning & Zoning Commission documents. The commission recommended the project for approval at its July 9 meeting.
If it comes to fruition, the project would be built on two properties that have been owned by an entity known as Turner Bobby Jr Etal since 2000, according to the Williamson Central Appraisal District. Insite Development is the project's developer, said Brad Robbins, a broker at Taylor-based Top Notch Properties, which is marketing the property.
Turner Springs would have 253 single-family homes, according to the documents. Square footage estimates weren't disclosed, but plans call for 47 mansions or estates, 119 houses, 29 cottages, 34 townhomes and 24 live-work residences.
Additionally, there would be 702 multifamily units spread throughout the development, along with 24,000 square feet of what is being called commercial live-work space.
Turner Springs would rise along Country Road 369 just north of U.S. 79, a major highway connecting Taylor to Round Rock.
While Taylor’s population growth has been muted in recent years — it went from 15,191 in 2010 to an estimated 17,337 in 2023, according to the U.S. Census Bureau — that's expected to change thanks to the industrial boom spurred by Samsung's new chipmaking factory in the small city.
Samsung supplier iMarket America Inc. plans to build 2.2 million square feet of industrial space in Taylor, plus commercial space for retailers, restaurants and support services. Other companies known to be expanding in the area include Wonik Materials North America LLC in Manor; Soulbrain Holdings Co. Ltd., HTNS America Inc. and ENC Inc. in Taylor; MSS International and KoMiCo Technology Inc. in Round Rock; Fine Semitech Corp. in Hutto; EcoMicron Inc. and Hanyang Eng USA Inc. in Cedar Park; LS Electric Co. Ltd. in Bastrop; and MGC Pure Chemicals America Inc. in Killeen."
