The annual survey compared more than 1,300 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 residents based on 45 livability metrics categorized into five key dimensions: Affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life, and overall safety. Cities were grouped by percentile, where the 99th percentile represents the best small American cities.

The Austin Business Journal reached out to the city of Austin and its 19 biggest suburbs to survey them on how many single-family homes they report in their development pipelines. Cities measure that differently, and the number includes counts at various stages of entitlement and construction. The Elgin City Council on May 6 unanimously gave the go-ahead to its economic development corporation to acquire a property at 403 Central Avenue, near the city's new police station. The EDC in February approved the $305,500 purchase from DLJ Holdings LLC. The property was valued for tax purposes at $153,000 in 2025, according to Bastrop County property records.

"750-plus homes headed to Elgin to continue housing boom"

Austin Business Journal shares, "Elgin’s housing boom is set to continue after City Council approved an amendment to a previously approved development agreement that will allow the developer to build more dense housing in an upcoming master planned community.

The original development agreement for Southside Meadows, as the development is called, was approved in May 2023 and would have seen 526 single-family homes built, but that number has swelled to 763 with the amendment approved Sept. 3, according to the meeting agenda. Austin Business Journal writes, "For the third-straight year, Georgetown is the fastest-growing city of at least 50,000 people by percent change, according to an analysis of data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Other Austin-area cities weren't far behind.

Georgetown's population reached 96,312 last year, according to newly released city-level data for the 12-month period spanning July 2022 to July 2023. That represents a gain of roughly 9,250 people from the year before — the eighth most in the country among cities of any size based on numeric gains.
