Business Insider writes, "Texas is becoming the poster child of the US economy.

A new Wells Fargo analysis determined that Texas is outpacing many states regarding GDP and employment growth, despite some struggles in commercial real estate.

These findings echo a Bank of America report from earlier in December that determined the Southeast's economy may outpace other regions of the US.

In 2023, Texas experienced the third-fastest growth in terms of population, increasing 1.6% between July 2022 and July 2023 — compared to 0.5% nationwide. This amounted to about 473,000 new residents, many moving from different states.

In 2023, net domestic migration — the number of people who moved into Texas from another state, minus those who moved out —…

Austin Business Journal reports, "developers working in Austin may eventually have a new tool when seeking additional building height for their projects.

With police and fire response times unacceptable in some cases, City Hall has taken steps toward a new element to its density bonus programs that would offer incentives to developers if they donate land to the city that can be used for public safety facilities.

During its Nov. 30 meeting, Austin City Council approved a resolution directing the city manager’s office to conduct a comprehensive review of the proposal and return to Council next year.

"We are running out of land and property to develop," said Council Member Mackenzie Kelly, who sponsored the resolution. "What I don't want to…

Austin Business Journal reports, "a new study released by financial technology company SmartAsset this month named Austin one of the most popular destinations millennials moved to in 2022. The analysis found one in four millennials moved to a different city last year, with the study ranking cities based on “the highest percentage of the population represented by newly transplanted millennials.”

Austin ranked No. 9 in pulling new residents within the 25 to 44 age range, per the study. The Lone Star State’s capital attracted 103,461 millennials, with the new residents marking 11% of the city’s overall population. The report added the median age in Austin is also in line with that trend, at 34.7 years old.

Austin wasn’t the only Texas city in the…

Austin’s ranking, down from No. 3 last year, reflects the city’s status as a “magnet city,” attracting both people and companies. Over recent years, Austin has seen significant investments from major corporations, such as Tesla and Samsung, which have drawn substantial business to the area.

The city’s industrial sector is thriving,…

Austin Business Journal reports, "amendments to Austin's land development code intended to boost building density throughout the city will soon be considered in a joint public hearing between the Austin City Council and Planning Commission. The changes could have a significant impact on housing supply in the city.

A meeting date has not been yet been scheduled but is expected to occur this year. Council on Sept. 21 approved a resolution calling for the joint public hearing, which was recommended by the city’s Housing and Planning Department.

The hearing shows there is political momentum behind the city's effort to address the housing shortage and correlated affordability concerns — as well as controversy. After a previous effort to overhaul the…

The Williamson County Courthouse in Georgetown, which is situated in the middle of the fast-growing city's historic downtown. It's surrounded by shops and restaurants on "the square." Once again, Georgetown ranked as the fastest-growing U.S. city in America. ARNOLD WELLS/STAFF

Austin Business Journals reports, "for the second year in a row, a city in Williamson County was estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau to be the fastest-growing city in the country. It was one of three Austin-area cities that ranked among the top four.

Georgetown reached a 2022 population estimate of 86,507. That's a 14.4% year-over-year increase, according to a May 18 release from the U.S. Census Bureau. That ranked just ahead of Santa Cruz, California (61,800, +12.5%), Kyle (57,470, +10.9%) and Leander (74,375, +10.9%) among cities with a population of at least 50,000 people.

"Job growth in Georgetown and across the Austin metro continues to bring new residents to our city," Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said in a May 18 statement. "People are…

Kilroy Realty has paused construction of Stadium Tower — the site filled with water in the foreground — but there are still plenty of intriguing developments that could rise in North Austin in the coming years. ARNOLD WELLS / ABJ

Austin Business Journal writes, "of all the great parts of this great city, I’m going to say North Austin is in the middle of it all — literally and figuratively.

Take a look at our metro on a map. It’s top heavy — always has been. The bulk of the action is far north of the river and downtown, and every indicator we have says it will continue to be that way in our lifetimes. The Domain area, aka Austin’s second downtown, is the geographic center of the developed Austin metro area, thanks to Williamson County’s housing boom. Downtown Austin is actually on the southern end of our built-out metro.

A new center of gravity

Some experts have told me that The Domain area could eventually eclipse downtown Austin in size, weight and height. That…

Considering Austin’s population has just about doubled in the last two decades, the housing market’s skyrocketing growth was inevitable. Photo courtesy of SmartAsset

CultureMap Austin writes, "despite concerns about housing prices and availability in the state, a new study deemed six major Texas metropolitan areas some of the best housing markets in the nation for their growth and stability. And the Texas Capitol city took the No. 1 spot.

In SmartAsset’s report, Austin-Round Rock earned its best housing market title due to its eye-watering 354 percent home price increase since 1998, which is vastly greater than any other area in the country.

Considering Austin’s population has just about doubled in the last two decades, the housing market’s skyrocketing growth was inevitable. The relocation of several tech companies to the city surely didn't hurt. Even Austin’s apartment construction has the highest growth…

KXAN Austin writes, "just days after the Austin Board of Realtors said the local housing market is starting to “rebalance,” Zillow has released a much harsher outlook: the Austin market is now “ice cold.”

The characterization comes as Zillow released its market report for December 2022.

The report shows homes in the Austin area are spending a median of 68 days on the market, more than in any other major metro nationwide. Back in December 2021, Zillow reported homes in the area were on the market for a median of 22 days.

Another metric in the report shows homes aren’t selling for as much as they used to. In November, just 11% of listings sold for higher than the asking price, down from 47% a year before.

That may be leading some homeowners…
