MYSA.com writes, "If you're looking for a new home, one Central Texas city just might have exactly what you need. Texas' capital city was recently recognized for having the strongest market in America for homebuyers, according to a new Redfin report.

The online real estate brokerage crowned Austin with the No. 1 spot on its top 10 list of the strongest buyers markets of September 2025. All but two of Redfin's best buyers markets were in Florida or Texas, with major cities like San Antonio, Houston and Dallas also in the mix.

To determine the rankings, Redfin analyzed the 50 most populous U.S. metropolitan areas using proprietary data on the typical time from a buyer’s first tour to close of purchase, MLS data on active listings and pending sales. Redfin defines a market where there are over 10% more sellers than buyers as a buyer’s market and a market where there are over 10% fewer sellers than buyers as a seller’s market.

Redfin data showed that Austin had an estimated 130% more sellers than buyers in September, up from 81% last year. There were 17,403 sellers and 7,568 buyers making the supply higher than the demand to buy a home in Austin.

"Rents have gone down so much in Austin that a lot of people are opting to rent instead of buy," said local Redfin Premier real estate agent Andrew Vallejo in the release. "If a home is listed for sale at $500,000 with today’s mortgage rates and a 5% down payment, your monthly payment would be around $4,000, but you could rent that same property for $2,500 a month."

In Austin, the median sale price for a home is $430,658, which is down 2.3% compared to September last year. The report also mentioned how Austin and Denver, Colorado have changed the most toward buyers markets since last year, noting Austin's 49-percentage-point gain is the largest among the rest. Denver gained a 45.7 percentage-point shift with a 55% rise since 2024.

Not too far behind Austin, San Antonio was named the sixth-best homebuyer market in the U.S. with an estimated 108.9% more sellers than buyers in September. The Alamo City had nearly 1,000 more sellers than buyers compared to Austin with 18,343 sellers and 8,782 buyers. The median sale price to buy a home in San Antonio is $307,287, up 0.2% compared to last year.

Other Texas cities that made Redfin's list were Dallas ranked at No. 7 and Houston as the 10th-strongest city to purchase a home."
