Austin Business Journal writes, "Look, in the air — it's a bird, it's a plane ... actually it's a big pool rising higher than a pool has gone in the history of Texas.
It's also our photo of the week. The penthouse pool at Waterline in downtown Austin has been set. MC Aquatic Construction in Georgetown gets much of the credit. The company is used to installing pools at apartment complexes and even a high-rise or two, but this project was at a completely other level.
The stainless steel pool was manufactured by Bradford Products LLC, and a crew from DPR Construction got it up there in a single bound under the supervision of developers Kairoi Residential and Lincoln Property Co.
Waterline is the tallest tower in all of Texas, with unmatched views of the region in every direction. The skyscraper officially earned that distinction earlier this year when it surpassed Houston's JPMorgan Chase Tower and then topped out Aug. 1 at its full height of 1,025 feet, or 74 stories tall.
Waterline is still a year away from opening, and several real estate experts said they're watching the tower as a sort of barometer of the real estate scene — will the residential units, office space, hotel rooms and retail slots get filled nicely? Inquiring minds are desperate to know — especially those who have similar projects on hold due to poor market conditions.
Waterline is expected to be the 24th tallest building in the U.S. once finished. It will rank just ahead of the 1,018-foot U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles and just behind the 1,023-foot Bank of America Plaza tower in Atlanta, according to a list of the tallest buildings in the country published by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat."
